Wood Craft - Diane Von Furstenberg and Dialta Alliata di Montereale
BY BEN WOOD
ONWARD: Diane von Furstenberg was worried about her hair before the Nov. 22 grand opening of her DVF shop at Ala Moana Center because she went swimming earlier in the day. But there was no need to worry; she and her hair looked fine.
The vivacious fashion icon greeted guests, posed for pics and signed autographs for people in the invited crowd of some 200 that streamed through the doors. “Hawaii is an international city and I am international,” she answered when asked for the primary reason she opened a shop here. Grace Park of “Hawaii Five-0,” young City Councilman Stanley Chang and many of the town’s fashion plates attended the party.
Von Furstenberg spent Thanksgiving on Kauai with husband Barry Diller and family members. She was off to China Sunday on business. She also donated $10,000 to EuroCinema Hawaii, the group that organized the opening party.

EuroCinema films explore social woes

This year's Hawaii International Film Festival thwarts stereotypes of European cinema as solely art-house and heady fare with the eight films in its second annual EuroCinema section. The hilarious comedy "The Fairy" (2011, Belgium) draws on slapstick humor to tell a story that evokes Charlie Chaplin's and Buster Keaton's silent-film comedies of the early 20th century. Police, for example, appear in a manner reminiscent of the Keystone Kops. The film's art direction nods to French filmmaker Jacques Tati, renowned for his comedies.
