About the Cash Awards
Founded and incorporated in 2009 as a non-profit, EuroCinema Hawai‘i (ECH) is committed to the advancement of understanding among and cultural exchange between the peoples of Europe and Hawai‘i through the medium of film. An important part of EuroCinema Hawai'i’s 501c3 charter is the dedication of financial awards to creative media students in the state of Hawai‘i who demonstrate extraordinary promise and talent in the fields of cinema, television, documentaries, and/or animation. These awards are presented at the annual EuroCinema Hawai’i Awards Gala.

University of Hawaii’s Lana Dang was awarded $3,000 for her “Pa‘ahana,” winning best student film.

In 2010, this award was delivered to three recipients, each of whom co-directed the winning Best Student Film, "A Summer, A Boy, and A Cab." Co-directors Paulo Kobayashi and Marshall Wu of the Academy for Creative Media, Manoa, working with Oscar Zhang of Shanghai University, each received $1,000 thanks to a generous private contribution by Princess Dialta Alliata di Montereale.
Future awards will be decided on merit with submissions to the annual EuroCinema Hawaii Film Festival. Scholarships will be instituted in 2011 through applications based on financial need, talent and portfolio based on the recommendations of the EuroCinema Hawaii Education Sub-Committee. Cash Awards may also be applied for in the future for individual projects by qualified students.
